Australian Open Day 7: Novak Djokovic edges Stanislas Wawrinka in best match of 2013 so far

Wow... the Australian Open has been somewhat flat so far with no real epic high quality matches in either draws.  The second set of Federer/Tomic had been the best up till now, but that was blown out of the stratosphere with Novak Djokovic's 1-6 7-5 6-4 6-7(5) 12-10 win over Stanislas Wawrinka in the final match on the Rod Laver Arena.  The match topped five hours and did not finish until 1.41am local time.  Wawrinka produced some astonishing tennis during the first hour as he took a 6-1 5-2 lead; however he did check out as he tried to serve out for the second set, which Djokovic won.

The Serb won the third set too, but Wawrinka was not finished there.  The most impressive aspect of the Swiss man's game was that he managed to rediscover his superb from from the first two sets and came roaring back to take the fourth set on a quite magical rally in the tiebreak (see below).  The pair were neck-and-neck in the decider, which understandably dipped until Djokovic make the breakthrough at 11-10, breaking on one of the finest match points that I think you are just about ever likely to see.  I have linked up the video below if you have not yet seen it!

Wawrinka wins the 4th set
