ATP World Tour Finals: Day 4 Predictions

Juan Martin Del Potro
Roger Federer v David Ferrer
Roger Federer has begun the World Tour Finals in fine form as he comfortably defeated Janko Tipsarevic, 6-3 6-1, without facing a break point.  He now takes on the in-form David Ferrer, who was at his dogged best to fend off the advances of Juan Martin Del Potro, 6-3 3-6 6-4.  Ferrer hunted every ball down and often got the tall Argentine on the run during their 2 hour 16 minute contest.  The head-to-head suggests Ferrer's 11 match winning streak will come under severe threat tomorrow afternoon.  Federer has never lost to the Spaniard in 13 matches and in only three of those encounters, did Ferrer actually manage to win a set.  Federer is well rested and I predict a win here that will almost certainly confirm his place in the semi-finals...

Prediction - Federer to beat Ferrer in 2 tight sets

Juan Martin Del Potro v Janko Tipsarevic
The night match on Thursday will be crucial for both Juan Martin Del Potro and Janko Tipsarevic to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.  Del Potro started slowly against David Ferrer but showed flashes of his best form throughout the second and third set before a disappointing finish to the match.  Tipsarevic was thoroughly outplayed by Roger Federer and commented on Twitter that he was hoping to feel "physically better" for Thursday's match.  Del Potro leads the head-to-head by 3 wins to 0 although they have not played each other since 2011.  In 2009, Del Potro lost his opening match to Andy Murray but came roaring back to make the final... I am predicting the same to happen in 2012.

Prediction - Del Potro to beat Tipsarevic in 2 tight sets
