Women's US Open - Super Zvon into final

Vera Zvonareva produced a superb performance to defeat the number 1 seed and bookmakers favourite Caroline Wozniacki, 6-4 6-3 in the US Open Semi-finals. Right from the beginning with the pre-match interview it was evident that Wozniacki seemed nervous and she started that way producing more errors than usual, expecially on the forehand side and and seemed unable to produce the power she has shown in previous rounds. Zvonareva make the breakthrough at 1-1 and served superbly well throughout the remainder of the set to claim the first set 6-4. Zvonareva continued to trouble Wozniacki in the second set as she attacked the ball and manoeuvred the Dane around the court. Wozniacki slipped back into her defensive mode and failed to make any real impact as she continually made the wrong decisions on shots. After an exchange of breaks it was Zvonareva who made the important break at 3-2 and she served the match out superbly as she drew on her experiences of Wimbledon to reach her second grand slam final of the year. Wozniacki was disappointing and it seemed that her heavy schedule leading up to the US Open may have got to her today. I still believe that Wozniacki has what it takes to win a grand slam however this will be a setback for her and she will need to continue to improve her attacking game, her net play and bolster up the forehand which fell apart today against a tactically superb Zvonareva.
